Netanyahu’s Trap

Israel wants to drag the resistance in Gaza to an open military confrontation to repeat the same scenario that preceded the war and massacres of last year, with the ultimate aim of quelling the intifada in the West Bank. This will also serve the interests of the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah and various Arab regimes, for the conflict will then be portrayed as Hamas vs. Israel and will further feed the nonsensical Israreli-Western discourse of terrorism and other such reductionist terminology.

Worst of all it will be the end of any potential popular intifada that could help Palestinians challenge the Israeli occupation and rid themselves of their self-serving and utterly corrupt leadership. Palestinian factions in Gaza must be very cautious not to walk into Netanyahu’s trap.
