SEATTLE — Palestinian author and Palestine Chronicle editor Ramzy Baroud launched his new book Before the Flood: A Gaza Family Memoir Across Three Generations of Colonial Invasion, Occupation, and War in Palestine on Wednesday evening at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park, Washington.

The event brought together readers, activists and members of the local Palestinian solidarity community for a public reading, discussion, audience Q&A and book signing.

Hosted by the independent bookstore as part of its author events program, the gathering marked the first public presentation of the memoir ahead of its broader international release.

A Family Story as Collective History

During the discussion, Baroud spoke about the book’s central premise: narrating Palestinian history through lived experience rather than political abstraction.

The memoir follows several generations of his family from pre-Nakba Palestine to present-day Gaza, connecting personal memory to the wider Palestinian story of displacement, resilience and continuity.

The Seattle launch serves as the opening moment of a broader international engagement around the book.

Worldwide Book Tour Announced

Baroud has announced an upcoming worldwide tour, with events across the United States scheduled through mid-May, after which the tour will continue in Europe with lectures, community discussions and academic events.

The tour aims not only to introduce the memoir to readers but also to encourage conversations about Palestinian historical memory and the human dimension of Gaza beyond daily headlines.

Additional dates are expected to be released progressively as the international rollout continues.
